Walking down 43rd Street, one of my colleagues pointed out that the NY Times was moving out of its long-term headquarters and wondered whether the landmark lamps would remain. I immediately flashed back to a grade school field trip to that building, circa 1968. We toured the Times offices and I remembered two things: those lamps and getting some lead typeset material from that day’s issue. The typeset is obsolete. How long will these lamps last?
