El Conquistador – Puerto Rico (Day Four)

On Monday, Jacqui had a facial scheduled for the morning. I slept late and when she returned, she decided that she would join me while I played golf. We walked over to the pro shop and registered and off we went. Jacqui was knitting while I was golfing. I took several great pictures of her knitting in the cart to publish on her store’s website but pushed the wrong button and the shots were over-exposed and bleached out.

I did not have a chance to warm up and started with an 8. I doubled the second hole and finally loosened up. with four bogies on the remaining 7 holes on the front nine. 52. I drove the ball really well again with 5 drives over 250 yards. One fun part of the course was that there were lots of these guys all over the fairways:

On the back nine, I shot a 47 with two pars and four bogies. I drove the ball 300 yards on the 10th hole (downhill) and 275 yeards on the par 5 15th hole:

Overall the course was quite challenging despite my (relatively) low scores. It is more target golf than anything. Unfortunately, the greens were not in good shape due to recent rain. And, at $165 some may find the green fees high.

My only other complaint about the resort was that there were no marshalls on the course. Each round took about 5 hours, which is about 40 minutes too long.

After golf and showers, it was off to the casino, where I played blackjack and Jacqui played roulette. I won a small amount of money before dinner. We ate seafood for dinner at the marina and then returned to the casino. Again, Jacqui went to bed early. I stayed again until around 2 am. I was ahead early, at one point even for the trip. Then, I came crashing down as the odds favoring the house finally prevailed. I left the casino down about $1200, more than I had planned to lose for the trip. Thankfully, the Ambien kicked in quickly providing a lot of sleep.
